A Summary

So this time I wanted to talk about serious stuff. Jesus was born to the virgin Mary. He lived and taught for over 30 years, then was sentenced to die by hanging on a cross. First, as He was praying in the garden (before He was sentenced to die), He started to sweat drops of blood. He was praying to His Father (God) that He would now have to die but He said that God's will be done and not His own. Then, Judas, one of Jesus's followers, came to the garden with gaurds who arrested Jesus. They brought Him before the Jewish leaders who hated Him because He convicted them of their sins. They hated Him so much that they wanted to kill Him. However, they did not have the power to sentence a man to death without the approval of a Roman governer. So they took Him to Pilate. Pilate found nothing that Jesus had done wrong, but the people still wanted Him to be killed. So, to hopefully satisfy what the people wanted, Pilate had Jesus whipped. Jesus's blood was spilt upon the ground after a brutal whipping. Pilate brought Him back to the people and said that he punished Him so he was going to let Him go. The people were not happy with this, so Pilate asked them what he wanted him to do with Jesus. They shouted "Crucify! Crucify!" Pilate then gave in to the pressure of the people and sentenced Him to crucifixion. Jesus carried His cross to a small hill called Golgotha or the place of the skull. There, He was stretched out on His cross and the Roman soldiers hammered 3 nails into His hands and feet. The nails ripped through His flesh and went through His bones, securing His hands and feet to the cross. They hoisted Him up so that the cross was standing in an upright position for everyone to see Jesus hang. His first words while on the cross were "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!" The day wore on and on and God blotted out the sun so that the earth was in darkness. And out of that darkness Jesus cried, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" His final words were, "It is finished." He then bowed His head and died. A Roman soldier went up to Him and stabbed Him in the side with a spear to make sure He was dead. He was buried in a tomb which was covered by a stone that was so heavy that it had to be rolled into place with several men. Three days later, the stone had been rolled away and Jesus was no longer in the tomb. He appeared to His disciples and showed them the holes in His hands. He appeared to other believers as well so that they might see He was alive and to tell others of His ressurection. Jesus died on that cross and rose again three days later so that you and I could live with Him in heaven for all eternity if we would only surrender ourselves to Him. Now, think about what God the Father was feeling as He watched His only Son die. Yes, He knew that Jesus would be alive again, but He still had to watch Him suffer. He had to hear Him cry out in agony and pain. Think, if you were a dad or even if you are a dad, about what it would be like to watch your only son whom you love with all your heart be beaten and whipped and nailed to a cross and then ask why you are letting this be done to him. Why did God let this be done to His only Son? Well He loves us too and wants us to be with Him in heaven, that's why He sacrificed His Son who was holy and blameless so that we might become blameless in His eyes so that we can live with Him. Jesus died, then defeated death and rose again three days later. As He defeated death He defeated our sins and took them all away. I don't know where else to go with this. I know I have repeated myself several times but I just want you to grasp that Jesus's death was no simple matter. Death by crucifixion is deamed to be the worst possible way to die. Jesus loves you more than you will ever be able to imagine.
